View of Western Ferries Pier - Hunters Quay - Dunoon
When exploring this magnificent region of Scotland, choose this exiting sea-route and enjoy the beautiful panoramas and breathtaking scenery as it unfolds on the Clyde. This route links McInroys Point, to the west of Gourock, with Hunters Quay, to the north of Dunoon.
Arriving by Western ferries, Hunters Quay is the starting point for most people visiting Cowal. Western Ferries has the advantage of running from McInroy’s Point, the frequency of service which they offer to drivers and passenger, with two or three services per hour and a final sailing at the weekends at midnight. The ferry crew will happily put themselves out to be helpful.
Western Ferries are always prepared, virtually without notice, to run an extra sailing to facilitate an ambulance journey; this service which the people of Dunoon understandably appreciate. Add in the fact that Western Ferries employ mostly local people, and one begins to understand why Western Ferries carry something like 80% of all vehicle traffic across the Clyde.
They are justifiably proud of their safety and reliability record, and operate 365 days a year, aiming to provide a convenient, efficient and friendly service to both the local community and visitors to Cowal. This short journey across the water will leave lasting pleasant memories, adding that extra ‘magical’ dimension to your holiday.

and a reminder of the Clyde’s great days of steam and sail.
In 1828 the laird of Hafton Estate, Robert Hunter, built a stone quay not only for the convenience of his own new home, Hafton House, which he built to overlook the approaches of Holy Loch, but with a view to stimulating further residential and leisure development in the area. His enterprise was successful: the wealthy came, mansions and hotels were built, and Hunters Quay became a mecca for Clyde yachtsmen.

Hafton House was built by Architect David Hamilton, who also designed Castle House, Dunoon, Castle Toward and Glasgow Royal Exchange.
