Mull highland games - World class Pipers, Dancers and Heavyweight Competitors. You will be very impressed by the standard of pipers and dancers, they are outstanding in their performance.
Since 1995, more than 100 Highland Games have been established in Continental Europe; (Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherland).
More than 130 Highland Games are held on the European Continent each summer. They are one of the most striking symptoms of a broad European fascination with Scottish history and folklore. Since the 1970s, thousands of adults have taken up Scottish playacting as a hobby. The “Scots” of Europe compete in kilted athletics, form bagpipe bands, and join Scottish dance clubs. They invent new clans with intricate heraldries, design their own tartans, and approach Clan Chiefs in Scotland, America or beyond with requests for recognition. They study the Gaelic Language, re-enact selected moments of the Scottish past in period costume, and campaign for memorials to honour the Scottish military presence in Europe. They are quite visibly crazy about Scotland.
![]()
Highland Games have been held for no more than 200 years in Scotland? The first games which merit the name were established in the 1820s by friendly societies concerned with the preservation of Highland Culture. These Societies had emerged in response to the massive social and economic transformations after the battle of Culloden in 1746 and the modernisation of the Highlands.
